Gerard is a South London based artist. He was first introduced to painting by his Grandmother and instantly felt at ease with a brush in hand.
To date, Gerard has worked in acrylic on canvas, using a combination of opaque and translucent layers of paint to create clean and crisp images. His work explores the world around us, more specifically; the way that we perceive it, the assumptions that we make about it, and the things we don’t understand about it.
Gerard is currently working on a series of urban landscapes and industrial scenes that play on the distinction between appearance and reality. Living in London strongly influences the subject of his paintings and gives him a constant supply of interesting architecture and scenery on which to base his work.
While realistic in some aspects, Gerard’s paintings contain an element of distortion. This distortion may be a result of the environment itself e.g. reflections, or may be purely imaginary.
